The Diocese of Lagos
Understanding the Anglican Communion structure that HGAC Chevron belongs to.
The Anglican Communion
The Anglican Communion is a worldwide family of churches tracing its heritage to the Church of England, united by shared liturgy, scripture, and apostolic order. In Nigeria, this family is expressed as the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion).
Diocese of Lagos
Founded 10 December 1919, the Diocese of Lagos is the premier diocese in the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), with roots in the evangelical missionary movements of the 18th century. It is led by The Rt. Rev'd Dr. Ifedola Senasu Gabriel Okupevi, Bishop of Lagos, and organized into archdeaconries covering greater Lagos.
Peninsular Archdeaconry
His Grace Anglican Church, Chevron sits within the Peninsular Archdeaconry (recorded on the diocese's own records as the “Pennisula Archdeaconry”), headquartered at St. Peter's Church, Ikota and overseen by The Ven. Dr. Stephen Adebusuyi Adeyemi, Archdeacon, Pennisula Archdeaconry. An archdeaconry is a cluster of parishes grouped by geography, and the archdeacon provides pastoral oversight of its clergy on behalf of the Bishop.
